Way I figure it, hey, there ain’t no dragons, or hobbits, or evil ghosts or magic rings, so what do I care if Tolkien had some details wrong in his description of how to pack a tobacco pipe? Sections that are directly at odds with areas of my “expertise” (such as it is) will bug me a bit, but as soon as they’re over, I’m good. I’ve never started worrying about the rest of the book.
